Karbala:
#1: U.S. forces on Saturday dawn launched an airborne operation in northern Karbala, killing two persons and wounding others without notifying the province’s governor and local authorities. “The U.S. airborne operation in al-Khanafsa area, 20 km northern Karbala, was launched today at 2:00 a.m.,” a local eyewitness told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He noted that the operation took around three hours. “Two persons were killed during the operation,” the eyewitness explained. He pointed out that the attacking force also arrested and wounded a number of people.


Salah al Din Prv:
#1: Unknown gunmen on Saturday assassinated an emergency police commander in central al-Shergat district of Salah al-Din province. “Unknown armed men opened fire on Major Khalid al-Sahan while he was driving his car in central al-Shirgat, 100 km north of Tikrit city,” a local police source told Aswat al-Iraaq news agency.


Balad:
#1: Unknown gunmen on Saturday detonated the house of a police officer in the Yathrib suburb of Balad district, Salah al-Din province. “The gunmen planted a bomb in the house of Major Rasol Gargaa al-Azawi in Balad, 70 km south of Tikrit city,” a local security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He noted that the blast did not harm the officer who was at work when it occurred, but it caused serious injuries to the officer’s wife and daughter.

#2: One student was seriously wounded on Saturday when a roadside bomb went off near a middle school in Balad district. “The blast occurred in the al-Mahata area, southern Balad, 70 km south of Tikrit city,” a local security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.


Mosul:
#1: Unknown gunmen on Saturday killed a woman inside her house in eastern Mosul city. “The gunmen broke into the woman’s house in al-Intisar neighborhood in eastern Mosul,” a local police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He noted that the woman was in her thirties, and signs of two bullets were found on her dead body that was handed over to the city’s morgue.

#2: A home made bomb was thrown over the wall into Mosul University campus. The explosion killed an army officer.

#3: Gunmen threw a hand grenade at an office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in eastern Mosul, wounding two guards, police said.


Tal Afar:
#1: Armed men in a speeding car shot and killed a policeman in Tel Afar district, to the west of Mosul.



Afghanistan: "The Forgotten War"
#1: Militants shot at a police vehicle in Khakrez district of Kandahar province, killing three policemen and wounding one, district governor Abdul Qayoum told AFP.

#2: Separately, militants riding a motorbike gunned down another policeman in Kandahar city on Saturday morning before escaping, deputy provincial police chief Mohammad Shah said. The policeman had been off-duty and was walking in civilian clothes near the city centre when he was assassinated, Shah said.

#3: Militants shot and killed four Afghan construction laborers as they were returning home from work in eastern Afghanistan, officials said Saturday. The Ministry of Interior said the workers were shot in Mata Khan district of Paktika province. Their bodies were recovered Friday by policemen who were patrolling the area.

#4: A local official says Pakistani fighter jets have destroyed several militant hide-outs in the northwest, killing 10 insurgents. Samiullah Khan, a local administrator, says the strikes Saturday targeted remnants of the Pakistani Taliban in the Orakzai tribal region, where the army declared victory last week over the militants. He says some militants were also wounded in the attacks.

#5: Afghan and foreign forces captured a Taliban deputy commander and a second suspected insurgent during searches overnight after an intelligence tip-off, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said.

#6: Afghan and foreign forces detained several suspects during searches for a bombmaker from the Haqqani network insurgent group overnight, ISAF said.

#7: Afghan and foreign forces killed several insurgents during skirmishes over the past week, ISAF said. It said no civilians were hurt in the incidents.
