INTIMACY

Aangirfan believes that celibacy is a good idea for much of the population.

The Dalai Lama states in The Art of Happiness that the purpose of life is the pursuit of happiness.

We agree.

Intimacy creates happiness.

But, that intimacy does not have to be deep sexual intimacy.

It does not even have to be sexual.

Pierre Joubert

Think of a bunch of convent school girls having a happy singsong as they sit around the campfire on a starry, starry night.

Think of a little toddler giving a big happy hug to his big fat mother.

Think of a smiling nurse holding the hand of a legless old man in a hospital.

Think of a bunch of people in the pub celebrating the victory of their local Worm Charming team.

Reportedly, happy people tend to be altruistic and less egotistic. (Purpose - Wikipedia)

Some psychologists suggest that happiness is linked to altruism, belongingness, and usefulness to others.

Now, imagine a particular example of sexual intimacy.

A pretty girl meets a handsome guy and for a number of months they go in for wild houghmagandy and rumpy pumpy.

Then the girl discovers that the guy is mean to hedgehogs and all along has been been hiding his colostomy bag.

The girl realises that the guy is not really like Justin Bieber, as she had imagined.

Pierre Joubert

Of course there are happy marriages; some girls do meet the right guys.

Plato got it right when he suggested we should marry someone because of the beauty of their soul and not because of the beauty of their boobs.

The Dalai Lama's view is that sexual intimacy is not necessarily conducive to happiness and fulfillment.

According to the Dalai Lama, contemporary Western culture falsely holds that deep intimacy between individuals is not possible outside of romantic or marital attachments. (Purpose - Wikipedia)

Freud, thinking of romance, warned that One is very crazy when in love.
